Can CIMC Help Me Stop Smoking?

Sounds impossible right? Not so! A study led by an associate professor in the School of Nursing at North Dakota State University, looked at the role chiropractic clinics can play in providing education about tobacco cessation to their patients and recommendations about healthy lifestyles that, if considered, can help people stop their smoking habit.

Here at Chattanooga Integrated Medicine Center, we are always explaining the health risks of smoking to our patients and recommending the enormous benefits of a healthy lifestyle and how to maintain it, so they remain both pain free and overall feeling their absolute best. Smoking, unfortunately, takes all that away.

According to study results, of the patients responding to follow ups related to their health, the patient quit rate was 13.3% for the 30-day follow-up of 15 patients and 16.7% for the three-month follow-up of six patients.

Truth is, more than one in seven adults use tobacco products, and tobacco-related illness remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States.

Patients in the study were those whose chiropractic visit was classified as a new episode of care. Chiropractor Joel Weiss, DC, in Fargo, North Dakota, who participated in the study said,

“I have seen research during my 35 years of practice that has shown that smoking delays tissue healing so it has a more direct effect on patient recovery from physical injury than they realize.”

So if you want to stop smoking and start healing, come see us. Our specialty is not only taking pain out of your life but also helping you make good, lifelong decisions about getting and staying healthy.
