How to Boost Your PRP Results After Treatment

October 27, 2023

Often, in Orthopedic Medicine, the only options a patient is given are dangerous drugs, risky epidural steroid injections, and unnecessary surgeries. Regenerative Medicine is changing all that. Instead of treating pain and injury with dangerous drugs, risky epidural steroid injections, and unnecessary surgery, PRP/Platelet Rich Plasma is a non-surgical blood platelet treatment that is typically used to treat muscle strains & tendon tears, minor arthritis, herniated disc, and for joint maintenance.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a treatment that uses your own blood platelets to promote healing. Platelets are blood cells that contain growth factors that can help repair damaged tissues. Blood platelet treatments for soft tissue injuries, overuse conditions, low back & spine pain and moderate degenerative conditions are all treated here at Chattanooga Non-Surgical Orthopedics. Here are some tips to help boost the healing after PRP.

If you’ve had a PRP treatment here at our clinic, there are a few things you can do to help boost your PRP results:

Eat a healthier diet. Focus on eating foods that are rich in folate and iron, as these nutrients are important for blood production. Some good sources of folate include dark leafy greens, spinach, beef liver, rice, fresh oranges, kidney beans, and fortified breakfast cereals. Some good sources of iron include dark chocolate, lentils, eggs, spinach, beef liver, and kidney beans.

Avoid certain foods. Some foods can reduce blood platelet counts, so it’s best to avoid them in the days following your PRP injection. These foods include cranberry juice, cow’s milk, garlic, and tonic water.

Abstain from alcohol. Alcohol can also interfere with blood cell production and reduce platelet counts. It’s best to avoid alcohol for at least 72 hours after your PRP injection.

Get some cardio exercise. Cardio exercise helps to increase red blood cell production. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity cardio exercise most days of the week.

Avoid smoking. Smoking can delay healing and what’s more, it can cause more harm to your body. If you smoke, quitting is the best thing you can do for your overall health and well-being.

Follow Dr. Hall’s instructions. After your PRP injection, Dr. Hall will give you instructions on how to care for the injection site and how to promote healing. Be sure to follow these instructions carefully.

By following these tips, you can help to ensure that you get the best possible results from your PRP therapy. Many global studies prove that PRP therapy is considered one of the most successful non-surgical treatment methods, with a success rate of 80-92% in some studies.
